Mama wants to put in a fall garden, and we have heard that the soil on this property is really good. So she tried to dig up a spot with a shovel. That did not work good because the ground was too dry. So then we decided to borrow a friend's tiller. That did not work very good either because it was not going deep enough. About that time, another friend brought his 4 wheeler over, and someone (I'm not sure exactly who it was) came up with an indigenous plan.
Yes, they pulled the old horse drawn plow out of the barn, and hooked it up to the 4 wheeler. Then loading up as many little children that could safely fit, they started across the garden plot. Our friend drove the machine, and Tommy spent his time hopping back and forth across the furrow, trying to keep the plow steered in the right direction. It was very humorous to watch.
Since the plow was turning over the ground, but not getting it as fine as it needed to be; there was another change of plans. And with it, a trip to a different friend's to pick up their disc. So this afternoon, Tommy fired up the 4 wheeler again, chained the disc to it, and started off again. Of course, the disc was very heavy, so Tommy put the little children on the machine again; this time on the front (for safety reasons).
The above picture is kind of far away, but it gives a nice view of our garden area. We also have a lot more than what is shown there. Samuel is not crying in the picture below; he is an expert at making goofy faces!
Here is a short clip of the process
When Abba came home from work, he took over the discing job. Here are a few more pics and video clips:
Tommy's job was to keep the rear end of the disc from bouncing around too much.
